The first website that I evaluated was based on my greatest weakness in educational technology: problem solving. I went to the Dell Computers Technical Support page and evaluated the site. These guys know what they are doing. I wouldn’t say that they have “dumb-down” the website, but it is user friendly to all (early tech-target tech users). However, at first glance, the website is very cluttered. There is almost too much information regarding where to get help, how to get help, who to contact, where’s my order, etc. There are 82 links on just the opening page! Most of these links are categorized to help guide you where you need to go. Digging deeper into the site, if you know what you are looking for, you can find it. Dell Computers is a technology giant; information is boundless. Live support is a great tool to get immediate help. Email is available as well as a 1-800 number for phone support. The search bar is actually a search bar that is in conjunction with the site. Many search bars will direct you back to Google or Yahoo!. If you can’t find what you are looking for, type it in the search bar, and the Dell site will find your best solution site-based. This site is a must for today’s learners. The site, in general, can be a template for web deigns and allow the learner to assess the pros and cons. Microsoft is tied directly to Dell, so that any problems within your operating system can be resolved through this site. The support site of Dell Computers has some flaws but, overall, is a valuable tool.
